🔍 Overview
The Mental Agility Test (MAT) is a 15-minute timed assessment designed to measure general cognitive ability. The standard time limit is a core component of the test’s design and interpretation. However, in alignment with accessibility best practices and local legislation, customers may offer accommodations — including additional time — when a valid need is identified.
McQuaig supports two approaches for delivering accommodations:
- Online Testing with Extended Time (via digital setting)
- Paper-Based Administration (manual process)
🖥️ Option 1: Adjusting Time Digitally
What is it?
A new feature in the McQuaig platform will allow test administrators to extend the time limit for the MAT on a per-candidate basis.
How to Use It:
- When assigning the MAT, you’ll see a new “Time Limit (Minutes)” field in the test setup options.
- The default is 15 minutes.
- You may select a longer duration (e.g., 20 or 25 minutes) by entering the number of minutes.
- Save and assign the test as usual.
Best Practice:
Only adjust the time if the candidate has formally requested an accommodation through your organization’s established process. Be sure to document the reason and duration for internal records.
📝 Option 2: Administering a Paper-Based Test
When to Use:
Use the paper version if:
- You need to provide extended time and digital adjustments are not yet available or appropriate
- The candidate prefers or requires a non-digital format
- You plan to administer the test in person under supervised conditions
Steps:
- Request the paper version of the MAT from your McQuaig account representative.
- Print the test and prepare a quiet testing environment.
- Use a stopwatch or timer to provide the adjusted duration.
- Submit the candidate’s responses manually using the Transcribe feature in the McQuaig app.
📊 How to Interpret Results When Time Is Adjusted
The MAT is normed for a 15-minute completion time. Extending the time limit changes the testing conditions and may impact the comparability of results.
Guidelines for Interpretation:
- Do not directly compare extended-time scores with standard results.
- Focus on relative strengths and patterns, not raw percentiles.
- Use discretion when including extended-time results in high-stakes decision-making.
âť— Important Notes
- McQuaig does not collect or store accommodation details or medical information.
- All accommodation requests must be managed by your organization.
- Ensure fairness by applying consistent documentation and standards when offering accommodations.
