Accessibility Statement: The McQuaig Mental Agility Test (MAT)
Last updated: June 2025
Updated By: Nigel Evans, C.Psychol
At McQuaig, we believe that assessments should be inclusive, fair, and accessible to all users. The Mental Agility Test (MAT) is a 15-minute timed cognitive ability assessment designed to support hiring and selection decisions. We are committed to ensuring that the MAT is delivered in a way that respects the diverse needs of candidates, including those with disabilities.
Accessibility Features
The MAT is delivered via a digital platform that supports:
- Screen reader compatibility (e.g., NVDA, VoiceOver)
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Scalable text and high-contrast visuals
- Clear and simple instructions
- Mobile and desktop accessibility
Alternate Formats
The MAT is available in both online and paper-based formats. The paper version may be more appropriate for some accommodation needs, such as those requiring additional time or in-person administration support.
A Note on Neurodiversity
Neurodivergent individuals may approach cognitive tasks differently, and conditions such as ADHD, Autism, or Dyslexia can influence how a person experiences timed assessments. The MAT measures general mental agility under time pressure, and accommodations (such as extended time or alternate formats) may help create a more equitable testing experience when appropriate.
We encourage test administrators to consider accommodations where needed and to interpret results with context. It is important to recognise that a lower score may not necessarily reflect lower ability, but rather differences in how individuals process information under pressure.
Time Limits and Accommodations
The MAT is designed to be completed in 15 minutes, and this time constraint is a core part of its standardization and interpretation.
- Digital Time Adjustment:
An optional feature will allow the organization administering the test to adjust the time limit when needed for an approved accommodation. This setting is managed by the customer, not by McQuaig. - Paper-Based Accommodations:
In situations where time accommodations are needed and the digital platform is not appropriate, we recommend administering the paper version of the MAT under monitored conditions. - Important Note on Interpretation:
The use of time accommodations should be carefully considered, as timing is central to the MAT’s construct. Scores obtained from extended time administrations should not be compared directly to those from a standardised administration. A more qualitative interpretation approach is recommended, supplemented by information from other sources.
Requests for Accommodation
McQuaig does not collect or store accessibility or medical information. All requests for accommodation should be directed to the organization that provided access to the test. That organization is responsible for managing accessibility requests in accordance with applicable legislation.
